Lesson 10: Entrepreneur Journal

This week, I learned great principle from the case study and it's something I would want to keep in my journal for future reference. There are so many different stories out there of entrepreneurs and all of the decisions they had to make. Now that you have read the entire case, what should Roxanne and Burt do, and why? With the options available, I strong feel that Roxanne and Burt should look at the opportunities found in North Carolina compared to Maine. Maine had many things that were excessive and will hinder the growth of the business and Roxanne expressed that the business is just like a baby and as a mother want to give a good care, am not sure one will be able to do so with the high transport cost which will shoot up your expenditure since one can’t do away with transportation and in dealing with employees, you have to also consider the high payroll taxes not forgetting the lack of expertise and all this negativity lies in Maine unlike North Carolina, sh...

This week was quite challenging for me due to some issues arising in my new venture of business. I was encourage by the words of my Action Hero Stewart, when he said this in regards to his business “The businesses that failed were the ones I tried to make money on; the ones that succeeded did so because we were focused on our mission.” I was working in church employment and ten I had a privilege of partnering with a Philipino in a new business and this I did resign from my job feeling that the money I will be making is more, today this man has caused me and my college a lot of troubles and I almost became jobless if not for the fact that I have venture into a new business when the whole issues aroused and from Stewart statement I have come to a realization of the cause of my failure. In regards to the reading “Hire slow and Fire Fast” I have made the following as my personal check list when going through the process of bringing new people on board. Commit to take as much tim...

Lesson 8

Below are great lessons I learned for myself this week that I don’t want to forget during discussions in my class. What are the Savior’s attributes that President Kimball describes?  Pick one and describe how you would demonstrate as a leader in a business? President Kimball mentions the following attributes of the Savior in his address: Understanding others, secular leadership, accountability, selfless leadership, responsibility, wise use of time, and potential.  I decided to focus on selfless leadership.  One thing I think is, if every person could put themselves and their own needs second to those that they lead, the world would definitely be less inclined to be selfish and self-centered and more charitable and compassionate.  Just as in business, I will ensure that I know each of my employees as a CEO, know their needs and capabilities and not to condemn them when they make mistakes, but understand them and help them become better employees as I want...

My week began with exciting and intellectual videos and readings. Just as “Zappos” was looking for employees who believes in the company and its culture, I feel this is a great lesson for me as a young entrepreneur to learn from, I don’t need to let the “weeds” turn to “forest”. I have to implement the strategy of Zappos in one way or the other. I also learned from my Action Hero, Bud, the importance of "Be The Best You Can Be" and to do this he said he had to overcome his biggest “obstacle” which is himself. I see the journey of entrepreneurism as a pathway which is not of smooth cause and for one to do this will require lot of hard work and determination. Just as Bud, didn’t allow the challenges of life to sway him away but saw that its always best to sourrund yourself with people of best caliber who share some philosophy and core values with you because these will be those who can guide you and you can tap wisdom from. From the story about 'go the extra mile...
